LGBTQ+ Modelling Agency London

The term LGBTQ+ is an abbreviation for “lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and/or questioning.” and LGBTQ+ models are individuals whom identify with being a part of one or more of these communities. As representation becomes increasingly important in media, fashion, and advertising, there's a growing emphasis on inclusivity, leading to more visibility for LGBTQ+ models.

Here's a breakdown:

  1. Representation: Historically, the modeling world presented a very narrow ideal of beauty, which often excluded those who didn't fit into heteronormative or cisnormative standards. The rise of LGBTQ+ models challenges and expands this narrative.
  2. Transgender and Non-Binary Models: While transgender individuals have worked in fashion for decades, they were often forced to hide their identities. Nowadays, models like Hunter Schafer, Teddy Quinlivan, and Valentina Sampaio (the first transgender model to work for Victoria's Secret) are breaking barriers.
  3. Advocacy and Activism: Many LGBTQ+ models are also advocates and activists for LGBTQ+ rights and representation, using their platforms to raise awareness and promote acceptance.
  4. Diversity in Campaigns: Brands are increasingly featuring LGBTQ+ models in their campaigns, not just during Pride Month but throughout the year, reflecting a broader commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
  5. Challenges: While there's increased representation, LGBTQ+ models still face challenges. Some are typecast or pigeonholed into specific roles, while others face discrimination or prejudice in the industry. However, the tide is turning, and the industry is becoming more accepting.
  6. Not Just a Trend: It's essential to understand that LGBTQ+ representation isn't just a trend. Brands and agencies must ensure they're genuinely committed to diversity and inclusivity, rather than capitalising on it for marketing purposes.
  7. Agencies Specialising in Diversity: Some modeling agencies focus on representing a diverse range of talents, including LGBTQ+ models, showcasing the range of beauty and identities in the world.
The inclusion of LGBTQ+ models in the fashion and advertising world is a positive step towards broader representation, challenging traditional beauty standards, and celebrating the spectrum of human identities.
If you would like to be considered as an LGBTQ+ model, then please see our applications page to apply to our agency.
